Deacon OUR WEDDING POLICY EligibilityThe
West Dover Congregational Church is available for weddings to Church
Members and their immediate families, and to Friends of the Church:
those who have or have had an ongoing connection with the church and
their immediate families. It
is also available to residents of Dover and the adjoining towns.
Depending on the availability of the church, those who are not eligible
on the above basis may request to be married in our sanctuary. Our
church hosts only a limited number of weddings due to the many
responsibilities of our shared minister and the varied uses of our
building. Prospective bridal parties should inquire, in writing, about
the dates for rehearsal and wedding, as well as a second choice.
Dates should be set well in advance. We
welcome those planning to be married here, to come as prospective bride
and groom, to several West Dover Church Services and have the
opportunity to meet members. Our
Sunday Services are scheduled at 9AM throughout the year.
It is hoped that a wedding in the West Dover Congregational
Church may lead to an association with the Church by the future husband
and wife. Liturgy and CounselingThe
West Dover Church considers a wedding to be a worship service of
dedication and celebration. The
guiding principle is drawn from the seventeenth century Congregational
tradition in which the bride and groom make and receive assurances and
promises. The service consists of readings from the Bible, prayers,
charges, vows and a blessing. At
least three ministerial sessions are required.
The Church believes that liturgy counseling are a necessary
and meaningful part of contemporary marriage and family life. Use of Facilities It
is expected that the minister of the W. Dover Church will officiate at
weddings services for those who are members, Friends of the Church,
their immediate family members and those currently residing in Dover and
adjoining towns. 1b.
For those outside the area, those connected with another local
church, following consultation with our minister and Deaconate, another ordained minister may be invited to share the service. It
is the wedding partys responsibility to contact our minister.
In the event we have no permanent minister, contact the Chairman
of the Deaconate. Music
shall be discussed with the minister.
The church organist must be contacted relative to music for the
service. The Bridal Party
is responsible for making their own financial arrangement directly with
the musicians. In no
case should the organ be moved.
A
Deacon (or Deaconate designee) will be your host, open church 15 minutes
prior to rehearsal and 30 minutes prior to the wedding. Candles
may be used in the altar area only. It
is the responsibility of the wedding party to make arrangements for
photography. Flash pictures
may be taken during the processional and recessional only. Kindly, advise your guests that during the religious
ceremony, no flash pictures are to be taken, due to the
interruption it causes. Videos may be done from discreet locations. No
food or beverages may be used in the sanctuary. Alcoholic beverages are not prohibited in the church building
and on the grounds. Please
do not throw confetti or rice inside or outside the Church.
Bubbles or rose petals are acceptable substitutes for outside
only. If
the guest number will exceed 75, the Dover Police should be notified
three weeks before the wedding so that arrangements can be made for
traffic control. Guests are
urged to car pool in order to maximize the capacity of the parking space
in front of the church and the Parking Lot south of the Town Hall. The
church should be reserved for the rehearsal as well as for the wedding
service! All participants
shall be ready to commence the rehearsal at the confirmed time.
